Who is Porterbrook Austin for?
Missionaries, church-planters, pastors, church leaders and all Christians in the Austin area wanting to deepen their theological understanding and become more mission-focused. Porterbrook Austin is ‘theology for everyone’.

Is Porterbrook accredited? Does Porterbrook qualify for seminary credit?
Porterbrook Network is not an accredited program at this time, nor does it qualify for seminary credit.
Who teaches the courses?
Rather than being ‘taught’ by teachers in the classroom sense, courses are learned through 1) the authority of the biblical text and the workbook questions, 2) one Learning Seminar each quarter and 3) online community discussions with others in the same courses. The primary seminar leaders are Jacob Vanhorn, Pastor of Soma Austin and Adam Wilder, Director of Porterbrook Austin.
When and where do courses meet?
Courses officially meet on a Saturday morning at the beginning of each quarter and at the end of the course. Seminars will be held at Soma Austin Community Church.
How much does it cost?
Standard costs are $40 for individual courses and $480 per year (or $960 for the full two-year program). Costs are subsidized for those who are participating in the Soma Austin community. (Soma Austin Pricing)
Do you have scholarships?
Yes we have partial or full scholarships available. Email Adam Wilder if you need financial help with Porterbrook Austin.
What if I don’t have a home church in Austin?
We deeply believe that the Christian life is not to be lived alone, and that everyone should be part of a local church community. If you do not have a current church, we invite you to consider Soma Austin.
Is my church participating with Porterbrook Austin?
This is the first quarter of Porterbrook Austin and at this time Soma Austin is the only officially participating church. We are talking with others about making Porterbrook Austin courses available to their members. If you are with Soma Austin, go here.
Do I have to live in Austin to participate?
You don’t really have to live in Austin to participate, but you do need to be able to make it to the Learning Seminars in central Austin.
What do some of your terms mean?
- Program – Theology for Everyone 2 yr program
- Course – The individual ‘class titles’ that you can sign up for.
- Units – Each course is made up of 9 units (or weeks)
